Frequently Asked Questions

What services do you offer?

Currently all offers are for in person care. If you are in the Greater Victoria area, I’m your person! An initial appointment looks like this:

History taking (we have a conversation), an assessment (does the problem look/feel like what we think we are dealing with), Treatment! Here’s where things vary, it could be soft tissue, or a mobilisation, but will always include exercise as homework so you can maintain the gains you get while in the clinic.

Why Athletic Therapy?

Why did I choose this? Well originally getting my Bachelor’s in Athletics and Exercise therapy was supposed to be the jumping off point to go and do a masters in Physiotherapy. While doing my practicums I found that I loved the work too much. Going to school for Physiotherapy while I already had all the skills I needed to help people seemed redundant.

But, Why Athletic Therapy? Why not Kin or Physio?

Ah! What’s the difference is what you were wondering? Functionally?

At the absolutely top of the adjunct health professions - kin, physio, chiro, massage and personal training - honestly there’s not much difference. Everyone is pulling from the same research and looking a very similar seminars.

The things that resonated with me the most in school were:

1) How much emphasis was put on anatomy and physiology - 8 of my classes would fall into those two categories.

2) This put emphasis into how everything works together. Having a solid understanding of where everything is and how everything works makes it much easier to understand how things should work together. And when they are not how to figure out what the root of pain actually is.

3) We did practicums out with the public - we got to put our knowledge into practice while we were learning. It means that I feel comfortable handling fresh injuries, old injuries flaring up, chronic conditions, or pre/post op conditions.

What type of appointments do you offer?

There’s everything from 30min to 60 min appointments available.

For initial assessments 60 min is the minimum. The reason for that is the conversation that needs to be had - so we can figure out if were are a good fit, if I can help with your problem, and if your problem is what we think it is! It doesn’t sound like much, but takes time to do.

For those that want accountability or have a number of questions there’s at 6 session offer for 30 min also available.

I'm not an Athlete though

Don’t let the title fool you; you don’t have to be an athlete to see an Athletic Therapist. The term “athletic” reflects the active approach to treatment that is used to help individuals return to their regular activities of daily living in a safe and timely manner. While Athletic Therapists are best known for their on-field work with athletes and sports teams, they can also assist any individual suffering from the aches and pains of everyday life.  Activities of daily living often require athletic-type movements and Athletic Therapists can develop specific rehabilitation programs to mimic these movement patterns to get you back to your regular activities faster.

Athletic Therapists work with:

  • Elite, Amateur, and Recreational Athletes

  • Children, Adults, Seniors

  • Acute/Chronic Injuries

  • Occupational Injuries

  • Post Surgical Rehabilitation needs

  • Any individual whose activities of daily living or athletic performance are affected by general aches and pains or injury

If you’ve suffered an athletic injury, or have pain or injury that is affecting your everyday life, ask us how our Athletic Therapist can help get you back to a pain-free lifestyle.
